The enigmatic Vergere has a long history that begins more than fifty years prior to the Yuuzhan Vong on a world whose name was lost in the annals of history. The diminutive creature is a Fosh, a species all but extinct in the modern galaxy. Standing about two-thirds of a meter tall, Vergere is a curious creature indeed. Short, ruffled feathers of varied color encircle her trim torso, from which two thin arms lead to graceful four-fingered hands. Two equally thin legs end in splayed feet. The legs, reverse articulated at the knees, give the Fosh a bird-like pattern of movement. The Fosh has an elongated head that subtly merges at the rear with the finely feather ridge of her neck. Pair of luminous, slanted eyes brightens Vergere?s slightly sunken face, which also sports a beak-like mouth fringed with whiskers, delicate ears, and two corkscrew antennae.
Vergere first encountered the Yuuzhan Vong while on a Jedi mission to discover the source of the living Sekotan starships. Trained in the ways of the Force by Master Thracia Cho Leem, Vergere herself was now an able-bodied Jedi Knight. She tracked the mysterious starships to an equally mysterious planet called Zonama Sekot located in the Gardaji Rift at the edge of the Tingel Arm. The planet had also fallen under surveillance by a group of Yuuzhan Vong scouts, known by the natives of the planet as the Far Outsiders. After witnessing a brutal attack that left the living planet?s southern hemisphere a ruin, Vergere offered herself to the alien invaders in return for them sparing the planet. The Yuuzhan Vong agreed and fled back into the void, taking Vergere with them.
Nearly fifty years later the Yuuzhan Vong arrived and found a galaxy rife with internal chaos and little organized defense. Vergere returned to the galaxy that she once called home, posing as a familiar to the Yuuzhan Vong priestess Elan. The two were chosen to act as defectors to the New Republic in an effort to infiltrate and destroy the Jedi Knights. Vergere had explained her extensive knowledge of the Jedi Order, but never revealed her position as one of its devotees. When the mission went wrong Elan was trapped in a chamber filled with her own bo?tous spores, although how she was trapped still remains a mystery. Vergere was discovered on the Millennium Falcon and gave Han Solo a vial of her tears, which contained a unique chemical that counteracted the effects of the coomb spores unleashed by Executor Nom Anor, before fleeing in an escape pod to discover the fate of her people.
Nearly a year later Vergere returned to the Yuuzhan Vong empty-handed; she had been unable to find a trace of her species. She approached Warmaster Tsavong Lah onboard his flagship interdictor, the Sunulok. She offered him information of the Millennium Falcon in order to satisfy his decree to capture the Jedi Knight Jacen Solo. The warmaster took the motley alien as an advisor, a position also held by Nom Anor. The executor quickly grew to resent the infidel alien for her interference in his rise to power. While the executor was dispatched on missions of varying importance, Vergere remained by the warmaster?s side and schooled him in the ways of the dejarik strategy game. In response to a Jedi strike teams? infiltration of the worldship Baanu Rass the warmaster sent both Nom Anor and Vergere to halt the incursion and capture the twins Jacen and Jaina Solo. During the conflict Vergere witnessed the death of the great Jedi Knight Anakin Solo. Jacen Solo was captured, but not before he destroyed the voxyn queen and bought his twin sister time to escape with the remaining Jedi. Before departing the worldship, Vergere paused to offer her healing tears to Jacen Solo knowing full well what lay ahead for the young Jedi.
