Der Englisch "Üben" - Thread

So why are you talking english in here ? It's the easiest language all over the world and if anybody does not know english he won't have any progress in job situation. The easy grammar, the english vocabs that are related to french and latin words, that makes it really easy to learn and speak this important world language. Well, we got two exchange students from Argentina and Taiwan and they speak english as well. I will go to New Zealand for half a year but not to learn english properly but to gain life experience. I am in a bilingual class and i am teached biology, geography, politics and sport in english, so i am able to speak very well ;)

from which english roman did you get that?

I', sorry, but "roman" is wrong. The right word would be "novel". Or have you ever met an english citizen of Roma?
I didn't know playing teacher could be fun. Perhaps I should rethink my life.;)

not really..

I hate to correct you, but :p...
The city's name's 'Rome'. The 'Roma' are gypsies. And in English, every name begins with a capital letter (i.e. English, Roman, etc.) :).

It's the real thing ;)...

Well, my orthography isn't that good. Actually it ruined my last English test. Translating is my strength.

Oh, you're a poor one, this (school)-year we haven't writen any test in english. I'm happy of that:p
We've already written the first class test and the first word test. I missed the word test, but I was told it was very easy.

Another topic to talk about: Are you able to think in English? Do you form the sentences in German and translate them into English or do you know how to say something at once?

well, yes I am able to do that. It helps you alot because you can speak fluently and so on.
Living with native speakers helps very, very much with that .. I met the former host family of my sister, they are livin' in Chicago and have a really american accent.

by the way, how does YOUR accent sound like ? I am always switchin' between american, german and english accents .

Yes. But let me tell you, it's not a good thing. Sometimes when writing a German text, the first thing that comes to my mind is the English way of expressing myself ...

At School (that's a capital S ;)) I speak more or less accent-free (or try to, anyway).
Normally, it's a mix of British English (the Southern kind) and the Irish/Scottish kind (I've had this accent way before I first went to Ireland, by the way, and I've always been wondering how I got by it).

well, i experience weird things, too. There is hardly any situation where I can't express myself, but often I do not know the german word when I am talking to my friends, I just know the english one ... :alien

For me it is easy to speak English fluently, when I know what I want to say. But if the conversation is about difficult matters and I have to think carefully about what I'd say in German, I also have to form the English sentence step by step.

If I recognise an accent in my English at all (I've not mastered this skill yet) it is a German one. My teacher has a British accent, and some students in my course try to copy this. Sounds really funny. :D

i`ve never heard a accent. In the school the teachers haven`t got an accent, and nowehre else i`m talking english.. what does an accent sounds like?

Often I think in English when i have read a english book or then I talk with my friends and the german word is not in my head ^^. But I learn english this time very hard because I must speak english at work. And my english friends say, that I speak english better and better. I haven't an accent.

Yesterday at the university in Stuttgart I heard a very funny accent. One of the assistants who presented the subject "Anglistik" to the students who had come there to get information about the subject spoke English, and got quite a lot of laughs. He's American and it is very cleary audible. :D Maybe I'll decide to study "Anglistik" later. It might be interesting and useful.
