Der Englisch "Üben" - Thread

Is the fun already over?
No one left who wants to practise his or her English?
I'd be very sad about it, and I suppose there's only nothing interesting to talk about.
Well, then let's talk about mistakes.
The favourite mistake my coursemates make is to mistake "to become" for "bekommen". They say things like "Robots are less expensive because they don't become babies." or "Mr. Warburton became a letter from the Sultan's assistant..."
In my first few weeks of learning English I believed my class teacher when he said that the sentence "I want become a chewing gum" was right. Now I know there are at least two mistakes. Why did he tell us this? To make us think about what we're saying and keep us from making that stupid mistake again.

or is my grammatics terrible bad?

"I want to become a chicken..."

That`s an mistake, wich has already appeared since (german) people are learning englisch. Even my mothers girlfriend`s did it. And my Schoolfriends are doing it too...

It`s a pity, that most people don`t have the chance to speak or even write english more than 5 - 10 times a year. In our world, it`s important to speak english at a high level.

I want to become a chicken?

Well, that reminds me on "english for Runaways".
Unit 1. "You have got a bird."

No, I simply like speaking English, it sounds as if I'm intelligent! (Hey, maybe I am!)

But... I don't know what to write!

So far!

Me!

Hey, I read last page!

Bounty you are in a bilingual class?

Hey, welcome in club!

Infact I love history in English, though I really hat geographics (Guess why? :p). And politics is a gift from heaven!

No, I think, that everybody in this word, has to speakn a little bit of english, so that he can cummunicate! I mean, littl children are learning English in primary school, and it connects the world.

I've written an essay on this, last year in my english yourse, and i think that everybody has to make clear, how important English is in our world, and in our every-day lives!

(God, hob often can you use every in a sentence???)

hm?

I didn´t know what I want to writing here now... my favourite is english language and that are easy languages as other many languages. I think, I can to speak the american language... no I didn´t think real language.

And is the grammer so important ? I think for me no and yes !
In ths time I don't care about it but in one or two years I will look out for a job in england or austria. I will see how I manage this problem.

edit: Have I say austria ! oho  I mean australian

I think you actually mean Australia. :)
English grammar is important, just as in German it can change the meaning of a sentence totally.
During the last weekend I had the chance to talk to some of the guest stars in Hamburg and it was pretty much fun, because I understood them and they understood me. I would have hated it to stand there, smile shyly and explain that I don't understand a word they're saying.

When I looked at the 8 deleted scenes on the SW e 2 DVD, I understood something! I was really surprised. I looked the film in english, too, and there it was the same. okay, some things i knew of the german version, but it wasn't so terrible I thought.

It is Star Wars! You know what they're saying, so you understand it even if it's a foreign language.
I'll see "The two towers" in the original version and I hope I'll understand it, too.

That's good. You have taken your first step into a larger world.;)
I prefer watching movies in English to German syncronization. And it's a good method to improve your English.

I don't know. I wanna make an exchange with America this year, and I think, I'll go a year to Ireland. I love this country. Maybe I'd choose England to, but I'm not sure.

My parents wanted to emmigrate to New Zealand a year ago. In fact they didn't do...

Has anybody read "Death of a Salesman" (Der Tod eines Handlungsreisenden) by Arthur Mills? We have to read this drama in school. I've just read the first 30 pages, but I must say I've read worser books in school, for excample "Die Schwarze Spinne" from Jeremias Gotthelf.

Hey, I think we have to continue our english conversation ;)
Because, I'm reading Return to Ord Mantell at the moment, and I can't imagine how to pronounce Anja in english. Is it like"Ändga"? (Or something like that ;) )

I always pronounced it like it's written: Ania.
Whether that's how Anderson and his wife intended it to be spoken, I have no idea. Another possibility I can recall having been used by Englisch-speaking acquaintances is 'Andscha' (which is much easier to pronounce, by Americans, at least).
'Än-scha' simply sounds bad, imho, and 'Än-schä' ist not possible (no -e).

Can one of you please help me, to translate this sentence (I haven't got it out of my head since I played MotS):

"The power embrase you, when your jedi-powers fail you!"

"The power embrase you, when your jedi-powers fail you!"
Die Kraft/Stärke/Macht (nicht Force) umarmt/umgibt dich, wenn deine Jedi-Kräfte versagen/dich im Stich lassen.

EDIT: (Sofern da eigentlich 'embraces' stehen sollte; bei 'embrace' ist es ein alter Imperativ (sie umgebe dich), 'embrase' kenne ich nicht.)

I have some problems with translating the following sentences:
Erstes Angebot. Bild noch nicht eingetragen. Das ist unser erstes Angebot der Woche! Beachten Sie den niedrigen Preis!

I translated it so:
First bargain. A picture has not been posted yet. This is our first bargain. Pay attention on the low price!

Is that correct? And is "bargain" in this context the right word for "Angebot"?

@ Wraith: Could you check the main site of http://temp.kema.at?
Thanks
